Hello all,
I recently purchased a 1960 cj5 jeep willys. The steering is VERY hard. I know it is manual but is it supposed to be very hard to steer? It gets easier as you drive but is becomes a workout when you are stopped or moving slow. I lubed all the grease fittings located at all joints. I am assuming the differential gear oil lubricates the large ball joints at the wheels.

Any input on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dve

Did you check the oil level in the steering gearbox itself? It may be low or non existant. ;)

The large ball joints are usually lubed by filling the steering knuckle with 80-90 gear lube. Also, if the steering box has an adjustment screw, you may need to readjust it.
