I have loved jeeps for many years. I was originally looking for a MB or Ford GPW, but lately have been leaning toward the CJ2A. Like the universal jeep concept.

I am looking at a CJ2A to buy and would appreciate any input from members here on what a fair market value would be. Check out this link http://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/new-to-forum-looking-for-advice_topic20201.html to my post there. I have described the jeep and posted some pictures.

I think the asking price of >$8000.00 is way out of line. For sure, it is not in totally original condition as the windshield, oil filter, radiator and seats have all be changed out. However, it has very little rust and might be a reasonable place to start for a restoration.

Welcome to the site. I will reply to your question of a fair price for this jeep. If you haven't bought it yet. Being as it isn't original and does not have any restoration work done on it, the price is high. To relpace the incorrect parts and rebuild drivetrain, and do the body you can spend lots of $$$$ . So starting with a relatively high purchase price and still have the restoration costs involved I would consider a price of $3000 to $4000. Sure hope you find a jeep though. Keep us posted.

Thanks Jackthebear.......

I have told the seller that the price is too high and also provided some internet links to show what the typical prices are these days. I did say I was interested if the price came down to around $5000.00. Based on your advice, this was probably too high, but I did factor in that it was very low mileage, well cared for (i.e. little to no rust) and that if I bought one elsewhere, I would have to pay quite a bit to go get it so the final price would be reasonable from my standpoint.

So far, it is still listed at $8500.00 so I am not holding my breath. But time and patience might convince them to lower the price. In the meantime, I am still looking and will buy when the right one comes along. I spend my winters in Arizona and there are a lot of CJ2As that come up for sale there that are in similar or better condition.

If anyone is interested, I have been tracking current prices here and in the US over the past month or so. The average SOLD price is $4850.00. The average asking price is $6400.00.
